An Interview with Farm Couture founder; Cat Ianelli - Nomadic Health & Beauty

We've been fans of natural skin care line; Farm Couture for nearly 5 years now. It's one of those underground 'in the know' brands that gets whispered about at fancy lunch tables. "Spanx for your face" someone called it.

Started out of frustration of not being able to find a simple luxury brand that was made of high quality, natural ingredients, Cat Ianelli - a sought after aesthetician - took matters into her own hands. She started working with farmers in her local area, procuring all her ingredients straight from their source and hand whipping the famous 'face whip' in her kitchen.

The brand has slowly grown since then, including a serum, night cream and lip balm and she no longer has to spend long nights in her kitchen. We excited to interview her and to be offering a giveaway with her product.

She was only a few days from delivering her newborn, Drew when she answered these questions.

1/. why did you start Farm Couture?

As an esthetician for over 12 years I started Farm Couture Skincare as a way to design skincare products that were rich in texture, fragrance-free and that offered an instant natural glow. It was important for me to design formulas that were infused with ingredients that were non toxic and equally effective.

2/. What's the brand's philosophy?

The brands philosophy is to maintain a simple skincare regime while using products and ingredents that are natural, effective and easy to use.

3/. What are 3 important beauty tips that everyone should know?

Three important beauty tips that I often share as an esthetician with my facial clients.
Tip 1: Protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Sun exposure can change your skin and cause wrinkles, age spots, and even cancer. For the best protection use sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15.

Tip 2: Moisturizing your skin is crucial for keeping it healthy and young. Find the right moisturizer for you and use it daily. It will prevent and treat your dry skin, and improve the overall texture and look.

Tip 3: Never sleep in your makeup! Your skin needs to breathe overnight and makeup can clog pores and irritate skin.

4/. What are 3 ingredients in contemporary beauty products on the market today that people should absolutely avoid?

Three ingredients in contemporary beauty products on the market today that people should absolutely avoid are synthetic fragrances, parabens, and phthalates. All of these ingredients can cause sensitivities as well as having toxic components. We absorb up to 60% of what we put on our skin so it's important to pay attention and read the labels.

5/. Tell us about your lip balm, your newest product, that everyone seems to be raving about.

I have created a new lip balm stick that I am very excited about. I have been working on perfecting a formula that is ultra hydrating and perfect to throw in your bag. Its primary base is Shea Butter which is naturally designed to keep your lips soft and smooth. Peppermint, Rosemary, Eucalyptus and Spearmint oils are infused into the balm to add a fresh scent while also invigorating your senses.

6/. You're about to be a mama with less time and little sleep, what's your skin care routine during this time?

As an expectant first time new mom, my skincare routine needs to be simple and streamlined. I keep it simple with a fragrance free facial cleanser, daily moisturizer being my fan favorite Face Whip Moisturizing Cream, that serves also as an eye cream and a daily SPF sunscreen.

This is Cat & Drew 5 weeks after his entry into the world....tired or not, this new mama's skin is looking radiant.
